In this country, ARM has been working to promote the Fairmined standard as a responsible mining model, support mining organizations to keep their certification and strengthen certified gold exports.  

General objectives:

  • Promoting and implementing a responsible ASM model in Puno.
  • Maintaining sustainability and growth of the Fairmined system in Puno and Mid-South Peru.

  • Setting up an office in Juliaca.
  • Recertifying MACDESA, CECOMIP and Oro Puno mining organizations.
  • Assisting MACDESA with the change of board of directors.
  • Assisting MACDESA with the investment of the Fairmined award.

Sharing work experience on mineral processing and exploitation among MACDESA miners at the SOTRAMI mining organization.

  • Carrying out previability tasks in Madre de Dios.
  • Complying with the improvement plan: Cruz Pata (89%), CECOMIP (85%), Oro Puno (88%).
  • Transitioning to clean technology.
  • Supporting 4 mining organizations in Puno: CECOMIP, Oro Puno, Cruz Pata and CENCOMIN.
  • Monitoring technical issues for the MACDESA mining organization (Mid-South Peru).
  • Analysis of gaps for the Sotrami mining organization (Mid-South Peru).

  • Puno: Women mining members of the CECOMIP organization have been trained in handcrafted jewelry (see more here), setting up a jewelry manufacturing workshop (see more here) and creation of business plans. Activities have been coordinated with Red Social/CIRDI, Sissai and CECOMIP.
  • Arequipa: A group of women mineral selectors (La Rinconada) participated in national dialogue spaces.

  • Initial analysis of mining organizations in Puno and Mid-South Peru.
  • Analysis of the Cruz Pata and Sotrami mining organizations on their challenges to meet the Fairmined standard requirements.
  • Connection with logistic agents, valuables transport companies and buyers to enable export logistic channels of certified mining organizations.
  • The Formalization and Commercialization Workshop was a regional event held in Chala to discuss the requirements for reaching formalization, connect different supply chain actors to speed up commercialization, support export and access to loans processes, and share experiences among miners during the internship at the MACDESA mining organization.   • The National Committee in Lima was the first event to create an exclusive agenda for the artisanal and small-scale sector. 
  • Nationwide partnerships.
  • Coordination with the General Directorate of Mining Formalization (DGFM) in Juliaca to visit certified mines.
