LATINOAMÉRICA

The Alliance for Responsible Mining is based in Colombia (Envigado, Antioquia).

For this reason, as the main country where we have based our work, we have influenced the government to achieve different key alliances aimed at improving conditions in the mining sector at the national level and dignifying the work of artisanal and small-scale miners.

  • We have influenced ASM articles for the Colombian National Development Plan in collaboration with partners such as Foro por Colombia Foundation, UNDP and WWF.
  • We have made recommendations to promote ASM regulations in the National Development Plan: Guidelines for mediation and devolution of concession areas towards formalization, information systems for the registration of subsistence miners and differential requirements for granting concession contracts to small-scale miners and beneficiaries of devolution of concession areas.
  • We have also provided our feedback on the draft resolution addressing the Regulations on Health and Safety at Opencast Mines.
  • We have participated in the drafting of the national mining promotion roadmap/model.
  • We have participated in the drafting of public policies on gender equality in the mining sector.
  • We have actively promoted reducing barriers to gold commercialization by analyzing Colombian regulations on this matter
  • We have participated as representatives of the Civil Society Roundtable for Transparency in the Extractive Sector in Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) at the National Tripartite Committee (NTC).
  • We were part of the Mining Policy Advisory Council of the Office of the Minister of Mines and Energy.
  • We became part of the interinstitutional coordination group – Bajo Cauca workgroup.
  • We held a national workshop in Medellin to discuss the development of an agenda for artisanal and small-scale mining in the country. This is a very important document for miners and civil society organizations to have real advocacy. More information here.
