Felix Hruschka, ARM Chair of the Board, participated in a technical workshop on responsible gold chain initiatives and opportunities sponsored by BGR (Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources).

Forum on Responsible Mineral Sourcing and Accompanying Measures. EURAC. Cristian Morales, Coodmilla Executive President, an organization for small-scale mining in Nariño, Colombia, and Yves Bertran, ARM Executive Director, participated in this forum. At the event, Cristian explained the difficulties found by his group in the Nariño region and discussed the opportunities arising from the implementation of the CRAFT Code.

13th OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains. Natalia Uribe, Standards and Certifications Leader, Yves Bertran, Executive Director, Patrick Schein, Laura Barreto and Felix Hruschka, members of the Board of Directors, and Baptiste Coué, Africa Project Coordinator participated in this forum on behalf of ARM. Baptiste Coué: “Men and women miners do not have access to formal financial services or mining titles to formally operate and invest in their activity”. Participation in a Deep Dive Gold – CRAFT side session, MSG-OECD Civil Society Group and EPRM members meetings, and invitation and accompaniment of small-scale miners (Cristian Morales from Coodmilla in Colombia) and two miners from West Africa.

Maria Laura Barreto, both members of the Board of Directors at the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), attended the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) to participate in a global discussion on mining for sustainable development.
Geneva, Switzerland. Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP3).
The purpose of attending the COP3 conference was to introduce decisions and guidelines that are essential to the objectives of the convention.

Training on the OECD Due Diligence Guidance held in Medellin, Colombia, to understand the context, objectives and recommendations provided by the Guidance, as well as to analyze thoroughly the steps required for its implementation
Chala, Peru. Formalization and Commercialization Workshop.
The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) hosted this regional workshop to discuss the requirements for formalization; to connect the different supply chain actors to streamline commercialization, export and access to finance; and to share miners’ experiences during their internship at MACDESA.

Zambia International Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (ZIMEC 2019). The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) was represented by Patrick Schein, member of ARM’s Board of Directors. Patrick highlighted the potential of artisanal and small-scale mining, emphasizing its role as a low-carbon activity which is a major source of rural employment, and foreign exchange and indirect tax contributor.

Workshop on CRAFT Code Implementation Within the framework of our partnership with Solidaridad-Ghana, the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) ran a workshop conducted by Yves Bertran, ARM Executive Director, and Baptiste Coué, Africa Project Coordinator. Participants were trained on the application of the CRAFT Code, a tool that represents as a passport to formal markets for artisanal and small-scale miners which focuses on mitigating the main risks of artisanal and small-scale mining.

The Annual World Association of Mining Lawyers (WAOML) Conference in which ARM participated as a panelist on the relationship between ASM and industrial mining as well as the opportunities for collaboration under progressive ASM formalization models and risk mitigation for involved models such as CRAFT.
