The progressive path
of responsible mining
(FROM CRAFT TO FAIRMINED)
Not all men and women working in artisanal and small-scale mining have enough resources and capacities to achieve responsible mining through the Fairmined initiative in the short term.
We are truly convinced that as a result of hard work and incentives, we will achieve more legitimate, responsible and profitable mining in the future.
Being aware that our sectors reality posesses many challenges, we work to guide and support miners through the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) model: from CRAFT to Fairmined.

CRAFT: A passport to formal markets.
An open-source standard created through participation to connect men and women miners with formal markets. CRAFT assists miners to identify the main risks of their operation and commit to improving their practice. This may be applied to different minerals. CRAFT has been created under a common agreement on how to apply due diligence in the sector. By using CRAFT, the market gets involved with artisanal and small-scale mining and gets sourced knowing that selling mining groups make their efforts to define priorities on critical issues to progressively improve. CRAFT is not an ethical mining certification but rather a tool or process to mitigate the main risks of artisanal and small-scale mining. www.craftmines.org
The Fairmined standard
Supports formalized and legal mining organizations to meet the highest international social, environmental, labor and business requirements that comply with best practices in the sector. Fairmined is traceable and certified gold to be proud of. Fairmined is a certification that assures that supply chain actors live up to their responsibilities. Fairmined is an ethical seal that promotes further development of organizations committed to responsible mining practices as well as their communities in which part of the Fairmined premium is reinvested.
